Cougar Ridge Metalcraft
Cougar Ridge Metalcraft artist Mike Blasdell of Sandy says "I am always awestruck by the beauty we are surrounded with
daily."
That Cascadian influence is found throughout his work, whether in wall hangings, pieces that are placed on a table or
practical pieces that hang outside or serve a utilitarian purpose. Frames are made of recycled pallet wood such as
Brazilian cherry and walnut.
Materials for his metal craft include a combination of 1/8th-inch-thick sheets of mild steel as well as stainless
steel and silicone bronze. He also uses recycled high-pressure gas tanks or fire extinguishers (for bells) and hardwood from pallets to frame some wall-hanging art.
Three words frame every conversation about Blasdell's art work: "outside the box."
He wants people to question his work and say to themselves: "How did he do that?"
Blasdell tries never to say never, and thrives on challenges that force him outside the box of conventional wisdom and
practice.
